Branding Identity System: The Restaurant at  Kellogg Ranch

To transform RKR into a cohesive, visible, student-driven fine dining brand that highlights its unique farm-to-table identity.

The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch (RKR) is a group project focused on reimagining the identity and visibility of the student-run restaurant at Cal Poly Pomonas Collins College of Hospitality Management. Serving as both a public dining destination and a professional training environment, RKR provides hospitality students with hands-on experience managing real restaurant operations. Research examined RKR within the broader landscape of student-operated culinary training restaurants through competitor analysis, dining experience evaluations, and brand positioning studies, revealing key challenges including limited campus visibility, an inconsistent brand identity, and ineffective wayfinding for first-time visitors.

The proposed solution strengthens RKRs presence through a cohesive visual identity, clearer messaging, and improved wayfinding and promotional materials. By emphasizing its student-run learning model alongside its farm-to-table sourcing from Kellogg Ranchs micro-farm, the restaurant can better position itself as a distinctive educational fine-dining destination that connects academic excellence with an exceptional guest experience.

01: Aim to Amplify: The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch

The inspiration for this project stems from the belief that great design should reveal, not reinvent, an organization's identity. Rather than creating a new story for RKR, the goal was to uncover and amplify what already makes it exceptionalits student-led operations, farm-to-table philosophy, and educational missionthrough a cohesive visual system that communicates quality, authenticity, and hospitality.
